In the northeast,weaving is a craft that girls learn right from their childhood. Each community has its own type of motifs, colours & techniques of weaving.The most commonly used looms are Frame looms and Loin looms.. The frame looms are basic looms made using Bamboo and other locally available material. The Bodos of Assam use this kind of loom. They employ the technique of Extra warp for their fabrics.Other communities using this kind of loom are Mishing, Karbi & Dimasa. The Loin loom is very simple, compact and most importantly portable.The warp yarns are stretched between two parallel bamboos.One end is attached to a wooden stick and the other end is held rm by a leather strap that goes around the weavers waist.
